Learning vs Education: A Battle of the Wills
The current education system is often times held accountable for the lack of intuition and spontaneity in students. Many colleges and universities grade students using written examinations for which they cram a few days in advance, and the information stays behind on the paper as they leave the examination room. In truth, most students are okay with this. They find very little wrong with leaving school and not learning anything, as long as they have been certified as having received an 'education'. What I have come to realize is that everyone wants to be seen as educated, but very few people have the will to learn.
I am currently enrolled as a student of the University of the West Indies, Mona (Kingston, Jamaica) pursuing a degree in Media and Communication, with a specialization in Public Relations. The class was assigned to create a personal blog in which we share our notes in an interactive format. I figure, however, if I am going to do this, might as well I do it right and hopefully I'll leave University with more than an 'education' and actually learning something, and who knows, whoever out there reading this, might just learn something too. So let's get started. School's Out, Learning's In!
